 COURSE:       MU1003                      Concert Band

 TEACHER:    Mr. Kennedy   Rm. 133 (Band Room)

  CLASS MATERIALS: Materials for this class will be provided by the band program, with the exception of a lyre and flip folder for marching season. Though most students own their own instrument, there are some instruments that the school system provides, primarily large costly instruments such as the tuba or the baritone saxophone, etc…

 DESCRIPTION: This class is open to any student with previous instrumental experience. Emphasis is based on the fundamentals of musicianship, through the performance of high quality band literature. Students will perform in both concert and marching environments.

 This course will include the following:

 Many performance opportunities

  • Sight reading of new music at a medium level and the development of band arrangements for performance purposes
  • Written evaluations of our own performances
  • Opportunity to pursue involvement in the Western Mass. District band
  • Opportunities to travel and perform in festivals throughout the Eastern United States
  • Development of personal musical skills
  • Development of ensemble skills


 60%     Class participation, citizenship and behavior (see rubric)

 30%     Performance (see rubric)

 10%     Written assignments (see rubric)

 These written exams will include musical terminology, rhythmic accuracy, melodic accuracy. The questions will be derived from the repertoire that we perform during 1stTerm and 2nd Term.
